Gasparo „Bergamo speciale”

3.000,00

A special version of our “Bergamo” model: the fingerboard and tailpiece are made of roasted hornbeam.
Unlike ebony, hornbeam is not a tropical wood, but grows here in Europe.

Hornbeam wood is very hard and heavy, harder than (red) beech and oak (Brinell hardness 36). This property has earned the hornbeam the name “iron tree.” Hornbeam wood is often used to make workbenches and wooden planes. However, due to its hardness and high specific weight, it is also suitable for fingerboards as an alternative to tropical ebony.
