Dressing a fingerboard

A double bass fingerboard is convex in the transverse direction and concave (has a dip) in the longitudinal direction, so that the strings can vibrate freely. A bowed string vibrates differently from a plucked string. And the lower the string action, the more carefully the fingerboard must be dressed, because even the slightest unevenness leads to annoying buzzing and rattling. A well-dressed fingerboard is therefore an important key to a perfectly set-up double bass.
