The Zadow amplifiers are specially and uncompromisingly designed for double bass amplification. Michael Zadow, who develops the devices and manufactures them in small series, follows a purist approach: no frills and no more controls than absolutely necessary.
The bass speaker is directed downwards. This results in an omnidirectional dispersion of the deep bass – as a result, the bass is just as audible to the bass player as it is to his fellow musicians and to the audience. Mid and high frequencies are radiated to the front by a second speaker. The round housing offers excellent acoustic properties, low weight and great stability with a low wall thickness (also suitable as a break seat). With the parametric center control, the sound can be adjusted so that all bridge resonances that make the double bass sound unpleasantly harsh can be faded out. The power amplifier is designed for 300W rms. The abundant power reserves of the power amplifier contribute to the transparent sound and the rich bass of the amp.
Since Michael Zadow builds the amplifiers in small series, continuous improvements can be incorporated into the design. The amps are also available with 9V phantom power at the input (surcharge: 50,-€). This allows pickups such as Schertler StatB, Vektor/Kontramike or Bassbalsereit Aktiv to be operated directly on the amp without an external preamp. The different requirements of the pickups can be taken into account with the switch hidden by the front grille (phase to peak, phase to ring or phantom voltage off).
