The Realist Copperhead

The collaboration between Ned Steinberger (who became known as the designer of headless electric basses and guitars) and the New York double bass specialist David Gage resulted in The Realist (“Copperhead”) pickup at the end of the 1990s. The piezo elements embedded in a sandwich of thin copper sheet are clamped between a bridge foot and the top. This placement ensures a full, round tone when bowed and plucked. Compared to other pickups, the Realist produces a rather dark tone and transmits only little disturbing finger and string noise. Well-known endorsers include Christian McBride, George Mraz, John Patitucci, Peter Washington, Harvie S, Michael Moore and Ron Carter.
